EUSR Impressed Voltage for Managers & National Grid Supplier Requirements (SR/234) Overview
Course details
Equip your managers and supervisors with the knowledge they need to manage impressed voltage risks safely and compliantly. Our EUSR Impressed Voltage for Managers course provides a clear understanding of impressed voltage hazards, risk management responsibilities and safe systems of work—helping ensure safety and compliance on projects across the UK.
Course Duration – One Day
Why Managers Need Impressed Voltage Awareness?
When managing teams working near high voltage (HV) infrastructure, understanding the dangers of impressed voltage is critical. Impressed voltage can create hazardous electrical potentials in metalwork and services—posing a serious risk to workers if not properly controlled.
This course ensures managers and supervisors can:
- Recognise impressed voltage hazards
- Understand risk control measures
- Supervise safe systems of work
- Comply with National Grid and industry safety standards
By completing the EUSR Impressed Voltage Awareness for Managers course, you will:
- Understand impressed voltage principles and how they affect HV projects
- Recognise typical impressed voltage hazards on-site
- Learn how to manage safe systems of work to control risks
- Understand the managerial responsibilities for IV risk management
- Support compliance with National Grid and UK utility safety standards
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for:
- Project managers and site supervisors
- Line managers responsible for HV works
- Health & safety managers in utilities and construction
- National Grid contractors and subcontractors
- Anyone managing teams near HV electrical assets
Course Overview
- This training addresses the control of Impressed Voltages in high voltage environments.
- To provide background and technical awareness.
- Highlighting the risks involved & mitigating control measures.
- To identify responsibilities of designers and key site personnel.
- To identify Best Practice, and relevant guidance notes and procedures.
- To raise the awareness and understanding of ALL THOSE ENGAGED IN THE DELIVERY OF A PROJECT – with regards to Impressed Voltages. Where and how they can occur, and what the dangers are. Actively work to negate ALL incidents relating to Impressed Voltages.
- To equip Supervisors and Managers working on or near equipment where Impressed Voltages may present a danger – with the knowledge to be able to avoid an accident or incident.
- Talk through the correct protocol, documents and permits needed to Safely Work on National Grid systems.
Course Content
- This training will provide the information required for supervisors and managers to be able to recognise circumstances or situations where an Impressed voltage may be apparent on any Project.
- It will equip all those managing the site with the knowledge to be able to avoid the dangers presented by Impressed voltages.
- It will enable supervisors and managers to recognise potentially dangerous situations and report concerns to the appropriate responsible person.
- It will raise awareness of working in close proximity to High Voltage Cables, Overhead Power Lines, Substation and Power Generation equipment.
- It will raise awareness of National Grid Working Practices and Supplier Requirement 234 (was TP234)
Assessment
Delegates complete a short multiple-choice assessment at the end of the course to confirm understanding.
Certificates
Successful participants are awarded the EUSR Impressed Voltage Awareness (Manager) certification, valid for 3 years.
Certified individuals are listed on the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) and receive an EUSR smart card, recognised by the National Grid and utility industry.
To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the assessment before the expiry date on your card.
Pre-Requisites
None, however it is recommended that delegates hold a National Grid Person Substations or Overhead Lines authorisation.
